How to ask a site to remove a link

Short, specific and polite beats a dramatic legal letter for most directory and comment links.

Name the exact URL

Cite the page and the href you want removed. Screenshots help when the link is inside an image or script.

Use the published path

Look for “contact,” “legal,” “DMCA” only when copyright applies, or a directory’s claim form. Do not invent a deadline you cannot enforce.

Ask for link removal, not a rewrite

If you only need the href gone, say so. Editors are more willing to drop a link than to delete a whole article.

Track and re-check

Log the date, address and reply. Revisit in a few weeks; scrapers and caches move slowly.

This guide is general information, not legal advice. Platform and search engine policies change; links go to each one’s own page.
